Artist's Comments

Under a cold red moon, I release my dove of blood...
Its heart beating fast in its ribs,
Carrying an old, old message...

it is a very powerful idea and image ... is that a quote?

Artists are magical helpers. Evoking symbols and motifs that connect us to our deeper selves, they can help us along the heroic journey of our own lives.
Joseph Campbell

It's not a quote... it's what the image made me think. I like it... I let the image form, from some idea that I didn't articulate to myself, and then it spoke to me. The idea, of releasing a dove in the middle of a dead forest in the dark of night... who is this person, and why are they doing it? What message are they releasing?

you're asking me? it's a blood dove ... it is its own oxymoron type of thing, no?

I really don't know what a blood dove means, but the tension between what it means and the usual image of a white dove interests me.
But it's something primal... with slightly ominous undertones. Something that will always be there and that we can't escape from.

Archetype comes to mind...

Symbols that speak to us at a subconscious level.

Well done!
:iconwisewanderer:
Thanks... this was very subconscious. But you know... you never know what movie scenes you might find in there. All that information that goes into your head via the senses... has to come out somewhere. So how many thoughts are truly original? Are we just walking mirrors, reflecting everything around us?

:iconkitkatcha:
If there was nothing around us to reflect, would there still be anything of us?

I think there is a story in the image...glimpsed like a snippet of a dream nearly forgotten...
:iconwisewanderer:
Yes, the picture has a dreamlike quality for me.

Well, that's a mighty fine question. What are we, when we take away all the reflections? What does a mirror really look like?

I know what we are... we are what we do.
